Thermal energy transfer around buried pipe infrastructure

چکیده
Decarbonisation of heating is essential to meet national and international greenhouse gas emissions targets. This will require adoption a range solutions including ground source heat pump district technologies. A novel route these includes dual use buried infrastructure for transfer storage in addition its primary function. Water supply wastewater collection pipes may be well suited thermal energy applications being present all urban areas networks already proximity users. However, greater understanding their potential interactions with surrounding sources sinks required before full assessment the such pipe can obtained. paper presents an investigation into associated shallow, water filled pipes. Using results large scale experiments numerical simulation it shown that soil surface ambient conditions adjacent both act as or heat. While conduction main mechanism directly any pipe, lead convection becoming important locally. In test case, sphere influence was also large, at excess 4 m over timescale months. Taken together, points suggest design analysis approaches when using exchange need careful consideration environmental interactions, losses gains other infrastructure, number diameters from pipe.

Segmentation of buried concrete pipe images
The enormity of the problem of deteriorating pipeline infrastructure is widely apparent. Since a complete rebuilding of the piping system is not financially realistic, municipal and utility operators require the ability to monitor the condition of buried pipes. Thus, reliable pipeline assessment and management tools are necessary to develop long term cost effective maintenance, repair, and reha...
متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Investigations on Al2O3–Tricosane Based Heat Pipe Thermal Energy Storage
The enhancement of operating life cycle of electronic devices necessitates the development of efficient cooling techniques. Therefore, in the present work the effects of employment of Phase Change Material, in the adiabatic section of heat pipe for electronic cooling applications were experimentally and numerically investigated. Tricosane (100 ml) is chosen as PCM in this study, where Al2O3 nan...

Background and Disclaimer The USEPA is revising the Total Coliform Rule (TCR) and is considering new possible distribution system requirements as part of these revisions. As part of this process, the USEPA is publishing a series of issue papers to present available information on topics relevant to possible TCR revisions. This paper was developed as part of that effort. The objectives of the is...
متن کاملAutomated detection of cracks in buried concrete pipe images
The detection of cracks in concrete infrastructure is a problem of great interest. In particular, the detection of cracks in buried pipes is a crucial step in assessing the degree of pipe deterioration for municipal and utility operators. The key challenge is that whereas joints and laterals have a predictable appearance, the randomness and irregularity of cracks make them difficult to model. O...
متن کاملFinite Element Modeling of Buried Glass-reinforced Composite Pipe
Two regional finite element (FE) models of a buried glass-fiber reinforced composite pipe have been developed at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The model replicates an arbitrary site whereby fuel is being transported through the 400 mm diameter line, and comprises of multiple components such as the valve pit, 45 degrees and 90 degrees pipe bends, and a service road consisting of th...
